Sustainable meeting in Finnmark

The latest meeting in the SDWG was a success. A new health project was decided.The participants experienced living in the Northernmost part of Norway, Finnmark

50 participants from most of the arctic world took part in the second SDWG meeting this year.

The meeting was held in Vadsø in Finnmark near the russian boarder to show the participants aspects of living in the northernmost part of Norway.

The participants heard about reindeer hearding and the origin of this old profession. Local politicians told about the long decrease of Finnmark with great unemployment and emigration. But they could also tell the story of great expectations to the future.

- People in Finnmark are highly qualified. Almost halt of all the young people in our settlement get an academic degree. As Norway will take part in the oil adventure in the russian Stokhman field we expect lots of jobs in the future, told the mayor of Vadsø the participants in the SDWG meeting.

The meeting approved a lot of projects, which are on the agenda on Arctic Councils SAO Meeting in Narvik by the end of this month.
