Focus on Arctic
The West Nordic Council wants EU to put Arctic at the top of the Agenda
“The European Union should place greater emphasize on arctic matters and start an information office where facts about Arctic can be collected and spread to the EU-system. We will also urge the European Union to set up an arctic committee”, says the new chair for the West Nordic Council, Mr. Karl V. Matthiasson from Iceland.
The West Nordic Council recommends that the governments in Iceland, the Faroese Islands and Greenland strengthen their collaboration with the Nordic countries and other countries around the North Atlantic particularly on emergency response and coordination if a large-scale disaster should take place in the the North Atlantic Sea. The recommendation is a consequence of the withdrawal of the American forces in Iceland.
The West Nordic Council is a parliamentary co-operation organization between Iceland, The Faroese Island and Greenland. The organization had its yearly assembly last week in Nuuk, Greenland.
