Climate Change threatens the Baltic Sea
Scientists find that the Baltic Sea Region will be one of the victims of climate change
Scientists in the Baltic Region warn against the effects of climate change. This warning comes in the report Assessment of Climate Change for the Baltic Sea Basin which last week was published in Finland.
The report shows that the effects in the Baltic Sea Region are the same as seen in the other northern regions. It is expected that the average temperature in the area will rise 3 - 5 degrees. The amount of precipitation will rise, especially in the winter time.
This means less salt in the Baltic Sea Basin and therefore huge changes in vegetation and animal life. Among others it will threaten the economically most important species of fishes.
The assessment report is written by scientists from the Finnish Environmental Center, the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the universities in Åbo and Helsinki.
