Studies in ocean management

Arctic Council project will describe observed best practices in ecosystems based ocean management.

In this week the Sustainable Development Working Group is working hard on finalizing the groups contributions to next years ministerial meeting in the Arctic Council.

Tuesday in Tromsø, Norway a two-days workshop in the socalled BePOMar project started. 20 participants are working together to finalize report on Best Practices in Ecosystems Based Oceans Management which will be presented and discussed when the foreign ministers from the eight Arctic Council countries and the six Permanent Participants meet in Tromsø in april next year.

The Best Practices in Ecosystems Based Oceans Management (BePoMAR) project under the Arctic Council was initiated by Norway in 2006 and adopted by the SAO meeting in April 2007, following a startup workshop in Washington in February 2007.
