Inuit And Arctic Indigenous Peoples Day

The Arctic indigenous peoples are a valuable contribution to the work of the Arctic Council.

Wednesday was the Inuit And Arctic Indigenous Peoples Day on the Arctic Venue.

It was a day for celebrating the Arctic Indigenous Peoples culture and global call to action against the global warming and the consequences for the Arctic Indigenous culture and way of life.

One of the key note speakers were Lars Møller, The Arctic Councils SAO Chair. He emphasized the importance of the indigenous peoples work in the Arctic Council:

"I am happy to see so many representatives of our Permanent Participants being present today. The active, productive and valuable contributions and support to the cooperation in the Council of the Permanent Participants was one of the very positive surprises for me when I started working with the Arctic Council. I think that the founding fathers - and founding mothers - of the Arctic Council recognized that the cooperation would greatly benefit from the contributions of the Arctic indigenous peoples and their traditional knowledge and their profound understanding of the nature and the environment in the Arctic region. I would like to use this opportunity to thank the representatives of the Arctic indigenous peoples for their valuable contributions to the work of the Arctic Council", said Mr. Møller.
