The Ministerial Meeting marks the end of the Norwegian Chairmanship. Denmark is going to take over the chairmanship for the next two years.

Ministerial meetings shall be held biennially, or at such other times and locations as may be agreed upon by the Arctic States in consultation with the Permanent Participants. Last Ministerial Meeting was held in Salekhard, Russia in the autumn 2006.

The organizers of this years meeting expect more than 300 participants representing the member states, the Permanent Participants and observer states and organisations. The venue will be the Rica Ishavshotel in the harbour of Tromsø. For many of the participants this hotel is wellknown since Arctic Council had its first SAO Meeting under the Norwegian Chairmanship here.

The Ministerial Meeting will be held back to back with the former U.S. vicepresident Al Gores and the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støres conference: Melting Ice; Regional Dramas, Global Wake-Up Call
