Actions for Biodiversity 2013-2021: implementing the recommendations of the Arctic Biodiversity Assessment (ABA), is the implementation plan for the Arctic Biodiversity Assessment's 17 recommendations and was approved at the Arctic Council Ministerial in 2015. In 2013, Arctic Council Ministers agreed to implement the 17 recommendations articulated in the Arctic Biodiversity Assessment: Report for Policy Makers. CAFF has since developed the implementation plan to guide activities for the benefit of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. “This document is our backbone for the next eight years,” says Reidar Hindrum, CAFF’s Norwegian Chair. “It guides all of our activities and points out what the Arctic Council is doing—or still needs to do—to follow up on the ABA recommendations.” The ABA recommendations are directed to the Arctic Council as a whole. Some activities are to be implemented through CAFF, while others are intended to be led in full, or in part, by other Arctic Council working groups and other subsidiary bodies. Some recommendations will require action by national authorities, stakeholders, and international organizations.
