Arctic TEEB (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity)

The Arctic TEEB project is producing a Scoping Study that explores the possibilities of capturing the Arctic’s diverse values beyond today’s market mechanisms.

As a first step towards mainstreaming Arctic biodiversity and ecosystem services into policy and decision-making processes, the TEEB Scoping Study was initiated in 2014 under the lead of the Arctic Council’s Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) Working Group in partnership with the TEEB office, UNEP, WWF and GRID Arendal. The project is producing a Scoping Study that explores the possibilities of capturing the Arctic’s diverse values beyond today’s market mechanisms. The Scoping Study is undergoing its final revision and expected to be published fall 2015.

“The Arctic is an incredible place with many facets that make it an area of intangible beauty, spirituality and wonder for many. This Scoping Study tries to give the prominence to lesser-recognized ecosystem services in addition to those that hold more monetary value so that we can better recognize the importance of the Arctic and its biodiversity as such,” said Reidar Hindrum, CAFF’s Norwegian Chair.
