Task Force on Arctic Marine Cooperation continues discussions at meeting in Stockholm

The Arctic Council’s Task Force on Arctic Marine Cooperation (TFAMC) met for a second time on 4-5 February 2016 in Stockholm.

Delegates engaged in very constructive, preliminary discussions on the gaps and opportunities for cooperation identified through intersessional consultations as well as potential cooperative mechanisms to address these needs.
The Task Force is co-chaired by Kjell Kristian Egge of Norway, Brian Israel of the USA and Jóhann Sigurjónsson of Iceland. The co-chairs emphasized that the meeting had been highly productive and advanced the Task Force’s work. Intersessional work will now be conducted in order to advance the discussions a step further at the third meeting of the Task Force.

The meeting was attended by representatives from all eight Arctic States, three indigenous Permanent Participant organizations, three Working Groups and seven accredited Observers.

The next meeting of the Task Force is planned to take place in late May 2016 in Reykjavik.
